Never have lead an article off with a Tweet but I felt this time it was necessary. This tweet was sent by me to all of our followers after the stink-fest that was Monday Night Football. I don’t care to try and figure out how many people were calling for Chuck Pagano or Ryan Grigson‘s jobs. Hell, I even saw a fair amount calling for Pep Hamilton‘s job. So that is why the tweet above was sent out.
I have a question for each and every Colts fan. Do you really, and I mean really, think that after week two that Jim Irsay is going to pull the plug on someone? He put so much trust into Grigson that he would not want to fire him in the beginning of the season and show everyone that he was wrong with his pick for general manager. He would not fire his head coach at the beginning of the season because Irsay has to much time and effort into making things work for his team. If you think there is a rift between Pags and Grigs, I just so happen to think there is , and you don’t think it’s causing problems in the locker room then you’re out of your damned mind. The players will say they can’t worry about it because they have to get ready for their weekly opponent. That is a partial truth, they do have to get ready, but ask yourself how they could possibly get ready when this crap is being thrown in their faces every week. How many times do you think they have been asked about “Riftgate” (I’m copyrighting that until the end of the season)? Eventually they are going to break and it seems like they have a little already.
People calling for the jobs of Grigson and Pagano aren’t anything new. People have been calling for Pagano to be fired since Bruce Arians was allowed to go to the Arizona Cardinals. Also, since the 2013 draft and free agent signings haven’t done much people want Grigson gone as well. Honestly people, the only person I can see being let go at this point is Pep Hamilton and that isn’t going to happen either because throwing a wrench in the offensive “game plan” after the season has already started is going to cause more problems than it’s worth.
Those of you who are already speculating that Nick Saban will be the head coach of the Colts next season can go away as well. If you really think that is going to happen then I have a unicorn I would love to sell you.
I understand that this fanbase is upset and you have every right to be. We were told that we would be seeing the second-coming of the greatest show on turf and so far all we have seen is a pile of dog crap laid at our feet. Now, I will say this and you can mark it down. If the Colts are 3-6 by week nine then I will make my decision on who I think should be fired, if not the whole damn coaching staff and front office. We can hope that “Riftgate” (is that catching on yet?) will slow down and that will cease to be a talking point in the media. If that happens then everyone can focus on football and not what the relationship between the head coach and the general manager really is. If you’re going to be upset then that’s fine, but please stop with the “FIRE PAGANO/GRIGSON” stuff. We all get that you don’t like that person. Hell there aren’t many that like either at this point, but tweeting at Jim Irsay to fire someone is a waste of your time and a waste of space on our timelines. We are known as being great fans of this football team, but right now we look like a bunch of whiners who are going to throw a fit until we get our way. Is that was Colts Nation is all about? I don’t think so.
